The planes banned transport of lithium-ion batteries – RIA Novosti

MOSCOW, February 23 – RIA Novosti. The International Civil Aviation Organization (International Civil Aviation Organization, ICAO) has banned the transport of lithium-ion batteries on passenger aircraft, Reuters reported.

The ban on bringing on board the aircraft battery used in cameras, smart phones and other electronics, has been introduced due to their flammability. Earlier, a similar ban was set to non-rechargeable lithium metal batteries, often used in watches.

The decision will come into force on April 1, 2016 and will last as long as will be developed is not new for the “dangerous goods” standard fire-resistant packaging.

The ban will be mandatory for all 191 ICAO-member countries, including Russia.
