Russia blocked a UN Security Council resolution on the establishment of the tribunal by the Malaysian “Boeing” – the First Channel

The UN Security Council discussed the progress of the investigation of the Malaysian catastrophe “Boeing”, fragments of which fell in the Donbass. On the agenda was the establishment of an international tribunal. During voting Moscow used its veto and blocked the decision on its establishment. As explained by Russia’s permanent representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin, this document is devoid of any legal and case-law framework. Moscow, said the permanent representative, insisted on the investigation within the framework of existing international rules.

“Russia is ready to continue to contribute to the full, independent and impartial investigation into the causes and circumstances of the death of Malaysian airliner relying on the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 2166 in order to identify the perpetrators and their subsequent punishment. Occupied with us today the position has nothing to do with the promotion of impunity, “- said Vitaly Churkin.
