Samara governor withdrew from the primaries, “United Russia” – RBC

Samara Region Governor Nikolai Merkushin withdrew from the primaries, “United Russia”, reports “Interfax” the press service of the regional government.

Merkushin going to go as part of a party list in the elections in the Samara Regional Duma. The government explained that the decision to withdraw his candidacy, he took together with the leadership of the regional branch of “United Russia” on 20 May. Such a measure would “enhance the competitiveness of party elections in the region”, said the representative of the governor’s administration.

The fact that Merkushin will participate in pre-vote the ruling party, “United Russia” reported on 8 April. From the statement of the Samara governor indicated that he plans to lead the first three of the party in the elections to the Legislative Assembly. “I want to be directly involved in the campaign to support the” ER “and help the party gain as many votes as possible”, – he said. He stressed that none of the top three is not going to work in the Duma after the election, the candidates will only “participate to create motivation, incentives to work in the districts».

The primaries “United Russia” will be held on 22 May. Related to the leadership of the party RBC sources said that it may be removed from participation in a few dozen people – mostly due to the fact that they could not double-take part in the debate, which is a mandatory requirement.
