April 19 deputies of the City Council was elected mayor of Petrozavodsk Acting Mayor Irina Miroschnik non-partisan. Her candidacy was supported by 21 of the 24 MPs present at the session.
Later in the day Shirshina announced its intention to reach the Supreme Court to appeal against his dismissal and return to the post of governor.
In December 2015 the deputies of the City Council voted to Petrozavodsk early termination of powers of the mayor Galina Shirshin. The main reason for the resignation was called dereliction of duty to address local issues.
Shirshina considered the dismissal was illegal and appealed the decision of deputies in court. The legality of the resignation of its then confirmed Petrozavodsk and Karelia Amphibious & City Court.
