Russia’s Actions in the Arctic are of a defensive nature. About the Agency Sputnik said by the US special representative for the Arctic Admiral Robert Papp. His words leads RIA Novosti.
“We are observing military operations with a high degree of concern, but I didn’t notice anything at the moment that would make me react. All actions of Russia, which I watched are defensive in nature and not an attempt to upset the balance in the Arctic,” said Papp.
According to him, currently, there is no need for new agreements between Russia and the United States.
“what I have seen is the renewal of the infrastructure, be it airports, data exchange, things that have to do an Arctic country with a long coastline to ensure the security for courts, which will be held in this area”, — said the Admiral.
Earlier, the Director of the Institute for the study of Russia’s potential at the U.S. naval war College, USA Professor Michael Petersen expressed the view that the US and NATO should closely monitor the increasing military capabilities of Russia in the Arctic region.
In 2015 in the Arctic were built four military bases. They are located on Wrangel island and Alexandra Land, Cape Schmidt Novosibirsk Islands, Kotelny island archipelago of Novosibirsk Islands.
