The UN security Council condemned the shelling of the Russian Embassy in Syria – Interfax

Moscow. 29 Oct. INTERFAX.RU – the UN Security Council decisively condemned the shelling of the Russian Embassy in Syria and recalled the fundamental principle of the inviolability of diplomatic and consular missions.

“the Members of the Security Council decisively condemned another mortar attack on 28 October the Russian Embassy in Damascus (Syrian Arab Republic), which caused significant material damage”, – said in a UN security Council statement to the press.

the document adopted at the initiative of the delegation of the Russian Federation, referred to “the fundamental principle of the inviolability of diplomatic and consular facilities, and the obligations of host States, including in accordance with the Vienna Convention of 1961 on diplomatic relations and the Vienna Convention of 1963 on consular relations”.

According to these conventions, the receiving state must “take all necessary measures to protect diplomatic and consular facilities from any intrusion or damage and prevent any disturbance of the peace of these missions…”.

Earlier, the Russian foreign Ministry has reported mortar shelling of the Russian Embassy in Damascus from an area controlled by anti-government forces.
