U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry says that the liberation of Aleppo from insurgents allegedly will impede a political settlement in Syria.
“If they (Syria and Russia) will destroy a large part of Aleppo to take it, what does it mean? This will change the attitude of people who will be forced to flee or who become radicalised? No. They will try to revenge. And even fewer will want to sit at the negotiating table, the more stringent position on potential negotiations,” Kerry said at a press conference following talks with Minister of foreign Affairs of South Korea Yun Bence and defense Minister Han Min Koo.
“If Russia and Assad will succeed in the battle for Aleppo, the fundamental dynamics of this war will not change. If you can’t have a political settlement, you may be the world”, – quotes its words of RIA “news”.
Kerry said that he does not cherish much hope in the beginning of the Geneva consultation on Syria, reports TASS.
“I would say the following: I do not approach this with great expectations. And nothing is based on trust,” said the chief of American diplomacy, commenting on the meeting of military experts of Russia and the USA.
According to Kerry, in Geneva between Russia and the United States there is a “bargain”, the parties find out what steps they are in reality willing to do and under what conditions.
“And if you both act at the same time to achieve the same thing, then perhaps you something and will be able to achieve,” said U.S. Secretary of state.
However, he argued, “every bomb dropped by Russia and the regime (Bashar) Assad, leads to the radicalization of a growing number of people” in Syria.
we will Remind, the USA declared the termination of participation in the bilateral channels of communication with Russia on Syria. The U.S. side accuses Russia and Damascus in the attacks on the civilian population. At the same time Washington has not fulfilled its obligations specified in the agreement. The Russian foreign Ministry said that the US either is unable to fulfill the agreements with Russia on Syria, or never intended to separate the Syrian opposition from the terrorist organization “dzhebhat an-Nusra”.
