Later, the Agency “Interfax” in the press service of the Russian PEN center, said that officially, the organization wrote a letter to the President. “The Executive Committee and President of the PEN center not involved in this”, — said the representatives of PEN center, adding that it was not their initiative. “We have a group of “liberal” opposition, with us trying to interfere and run our own line,” is also told in the organization. “They are members of the Center, but accept their own statements, collect signatures among like-minded people,” — said the press service, noting that such collection of signatures “is not the first time”.

the Ukrainian Director Oleg Sentsov was convicted by the North Caucasus district military court in Rostov-na-Donu on August 25, 2015. He was convicted of preparation for bombings and arson in Simferopol. In early December, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the situation with Sentsov should understand the judicial system. He also noted that “no one [Sentsov] is not condemned for his views, for his position”. According to Putin “the condemnation occurred due to its intention to take actions which by law were in fact terrorist in nature and which could lead to serious consequences for our citizens.”
