State Duma deputy from the Liberal Democratic Party, Mikhail Degtyarev sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs requesting the status of the former Russian colony of Fort Ross in Northern California and the legality of a finding that territory as a part of the United States. According to Zhirinovsky, businessman John Sutter, bought in 1841 by the colony at the Russian-American Company, and has not paid the full amount of the contract, and therefore further deal with the land were illegitimate and Russia still has reason to believe Fort Ross its territory.
