On May 9 Russia celebrated a national holiday – the Day of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

The Great Patriotic War began at dawn on June 22, 1941, when Nazi Germany attacked Soviet Union. At her side were Romania, Italy, June 23 joined by Slovakia on 25 June – Finland, June 27 – Hungary, August 16 – Norway.
