MOSCOW, January 3 – RIA Novosti. Farewell to the last commander in chief of Russian air defense forces Viktor Prudnikov will be held on January 6 at the Federal Memorial Cemetery, reported the Press Service and the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on Saturday.
The former commander of troops air defense (AD) Russia, General of the Army Viktor Prudnikov died on the 76-year life on January 3. Prudnikov directed air defense of the country from 1991 until 1997, was relieved of his duties in connection with the merger of air defense forces and the Air Force.
“After a long and serious illness, died a prominent Soviet and Russian military commander Gen. Victor A. Prudnikov … Farewell to the Army General Victor A. Prudnikov held on 6 January 2015 in the Federal Memorial Cemetery,” – said in a statement.
Viktor Prudnikov was born in 1939 in Rostov-on-Don. In 1959 he graduated from the Armavir Military Aviation School, and in 1967 – the Air Force Academy named after Gagarin. Since 1975 – the division commander, air defense, since 1983 – the commander of a separate army air defense. In 1989, he became the commander of the Moscow Air Defense District. Since 1991 – Chief of the Soviet Air Defence Forces, from 1992 to 1997 – Air Defense Forces of the Russian Federation. In 1996 Prudnikov decree of Russian President Boris Yeltsin was awarded the rank of General of the Army.
