Media: the EU is planning sanctions against 12 more Russians over Syria – View

Germany, UK, France and several other European countries are studying the possibility of imposing sanctions against not more than 12 Russians because of the situation in the Syrian city of Aleppo, writes the Financial Times.

according to Reuters, citing French and British diplomats, the possibility of making up to 12 names of Russians in the “Syrian sanctions list” of the EU. However, sanctions the idea of imposing sanctions will have to approve all 28 countries in the EU, reports RIA “Novosti”.

According to the source, the Financial Times, UK, France and Germany were also in favour of sanctions against not more than 20 officials of the Syrian regime. As noted by Reuters, the possible extension of the sanctions list of the EU on Syria may be the answer to the bombing in Aleppo, Syria.

Personal sanctions – a ban on entering the EU and freezing of assets apply in relation to 200 people, and 70 legal entities of Syria, which the EU considers responsible for the repression of the Syrian population. The EU restrictive measures against Syria also include an oil embargo, restrictions on the number of investments, the freezing of assets of the Syrian Central Bank, restrictions on the export of equipment and technologies that can be used for internal repression and surveillance and interception of Internet traffic and telephone conversations.

on Monday, a diplomatic source in Brussels said that the foreign Ministers of member countries of the EU during the next meeting on 17 October to discuss the possibility of introducing EU sanctions against Russia because of the situation in Syria. As stated by the permanent representative of Russia to the EU Vladimir Chizhov, the EU is unlikely to impose restrictive measures on October 17.

Previously, the party of Chancellor Angela Merkel, the German Parliament and of the German delegation to the European Parliament stated the necessity of sanctions against Russia over Syria. Experts, commenting on the newspaper LOOK media publications to discuss the “Syrian” sanctions in the German government, calling it a propaganda surge.

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin does not see the subject of imposition of sanctions against Russia on Syria, because Russia is the only country that legitimately fighting terrorism on the territory of the Arab Republic.
