The idea to make from the mausoleum and bury Vladimir Lenin’s body as a whole supports 60% of Russians, including 36% in favor of his early reburial at a cemetery. This is evidenced by data from a survey conducted by the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM) at the end of January 2016 among 1,600 people in 130 settlements of Russia.
According to the study, 24% of respondents offer to wait until the leaves generation, for whom the leader of the world proletariat the road, and then take a decision on the burial. Responding to a question on the assessment of Lenin’s activities, 65% admitted that he in his actions proceeded from the interests of the majority of citizens. The opposite opinion is held by 23%. Sympathetic to Lenin as a person 63% of respondents dislike it makes 24%.
As explained by the head of the research projects of the Office of monitoring and electoral research VTsIOM, Mikhail Mamonov, a positive attitude to Lenin is determined, firstly, nostalgia toward the Soviet Union, and secondly, an attractive way of this historical figure. He also pointed out that there was a desacralization of the image of the leader – an essential part of society perceives the Mausoleum not as an ideological character, and as an attractive tourist destination.
Note that the discussion about the possible removal of Lenin’s body and its burial under way for more than two decades, will intensify in the run-up to the day of birth of the leader – On April 22 and the date of his death – on 21 January.
So, in 2014, 61% of Russians were in favor, to put Lenin’s body to the ground. Assessing his personality and contribution to the history of the country, 52% of respondents named the leader of a good man, to the contrary expressed only 11%. In 2008, a survey conducted by Yuri Levada Centre, revealed that 34% of Russians were in favor of the fact that Lenin should be left in the Mausoleum. 31% offered to bury it in the Volkov cemetery in St. Petersburg, he allegedly asked to do himself in his will. Another 21% of respondents were in favor of the burial of the leader at the Kremlin wall.
