“Case “Kirovec”
on 18 July 2013 the Leninskiy district court of Kirov found Alexei Navalny and Pyotr Ofitserov guilty of fraud in especially large size. According to investigators, they illegally received from KOGUP “Kirovles” 10 thousand cubic meters of wood worth 16 million rubles to OOO “Vyatka forest company” ofitserova and then sold.
Navalny and Officers deny guilt. Initially, the court has appointed punishment in the form of five and four years imprisonment respectively. In considering the appeal, the Kirov regional court changed the actual sentence to a suspended one.
In February 2016, the European court of human rights has established that Navalny and Ofitserov were tried for acts which are impossible to distinguish from ordinary course of business, and awarded the applicant €8 thousand as compensation of moral harm. The court also ruled that Russia should pay the Bulk of slightly more than €48 thousand, and Ofitserova almost €23 thousand for compensation for legal costs. On 16 November the Supreme court overturned the verdict on the “case “Kirovec” and referred it for reconsideration.
