Vladivostok City Duma in the third, final reading approved changes to the city charter, abolishing the direct election of the mayor.

Now, the mayor will be elected by secret ballot of the deputies of the City Council and the city administration will lead the city manager, who is appointed on a contract based on the results of the competition.

The new provisions of the Charter entered into force at the end of office of the current Igor Pushkarev head Vladivostok elected to the post in September 2013 for a period of 5 years.

In November last year, members of the Legislative Assembly of the Primorsky Territory passed a law according to which all municipalities in the region appear professional city manager.
