The Human Rights Council under the President of Russia proposes to hold a day of the 70th anniversary of victory in Great Patriotic War, the international forum dedicated to improving the legal mechanisms to protect human rights and freedoms. In FH prepared proposals to amend the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted in 1948, the General Assembly’s UN, many of the articles which are now obsolete. This was told by a member of the Board Leonid Polyakov. According to him, “it is necessary to draw attention to the fact that a number of articles of the Declaration, which guarantees life, liberty, security of person and protection from abuse and torture are ignored in practice – and interstate and intrastate”.
“A particularly vivid example – today’s Ukraine, where there is a months-long destruction of the civilian population of New Russia. Ironically, European and North American public practically does not react to it. It would seem, for all to see happen ethnic cleansing and genocide, but neither government nor human rights organizations are not actively intervene in what is happening in Ukraine, – says Polyakov. – Another problem – it is the case in the French edition of the magazine “Charly Ebdo.” We see that the guaranteed right to freedom of conscience comes into conflict with the right to freedom of expression. The right to freedom of conscience implies that a person can practice any religion and it will be protected from abuse. While freedom of speech, like, proclaims the principle of “what I want, I say”.
