Russian drifting station “North Pole-2015″ began its work – the Russian Newspaper

On Saturday night, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology Sergei Donskoi and Economy Minister Alexei Ulyukayev inaugurated drifting station “North Pole – 2015″. Floe on which the camp is deployed explorers, is 10-40 km from the pole, constantly moving it to the north, the south and 1280 km from the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard.

There are many tasks expedition to study the ice , ocean and air. It is planned that the work on the ice will last 2.5-3 months, but it may happen that the expedition will end soon – it will all depend on the weather and, accordingly, the state of the ice floes. In recent days, the temperature in the region of the drift varied from -2 to -30 degrees. In summer, the normal temperature of -5 to zero, but can rise up to +10. And then the ice begins to melt. In addition, it is destroyed and under the influence of wind and currents.
