On February 23, Russia celebrates Defender of the Fatherland Day – a REGNUM
On February 23, on Monday, Russia celebrates the Day of Defender of the Fatherland. Across the country, the celebrations will be held in the capital planned more than a thousand district and about 150 citywide.
According to tradition, in Moscow held a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Alexander Garden at 12:40 MSK.

The ceremony will be attended by veterans’ organizations Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, members of the Government of Moscow and the Moscow City Duma deputies, representatives of children’s and youth organizations, religious denominations.
Also, on February 23 square Dorogomilov Zastava held a ceremony of laying wreaths and flowers to the monument of “Moscow – urban hero. ” And on Poklonnaya Hill in memory of Fire and Glory will be billed honor. At 14:00 MSK. the city will start the festivities.

On the eve of February 23 at the State Kremlin Palace hosted a memorial evening devoted to the Day of Defender of the Fatherland, which was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin. “On this day we honor the tradition of those who dedicate themselves to the service of the inverse, for someone to ensure the sovereignty and security of the homeland, the protection of its people have become the meaning of life, who protects the honor of his uniform and perfectly fulfills its duty,” – Putin said during his speech at the gala evening.
February 23 celebrated in the Soviet Union since 1922 as the Day of the Red Army and Navy. From 1949 to 1993, this day was called the Day of the Soviet Army and Navy. Today, Russia, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan on February 23 celebrating the Day of Defender of the Fatherland.
