After the capture of the Crimea Russian occupation authorities fabricated a number of criminal cases against local activists. The first was the case of “Crimean terrorists” who were arrested by the film director Oleg Sentsov, leftist activist Alexander Kol’chenko, lawyer and historian Gennady Afanasyev Alexey Cirno. All four were accused of belonging to a cell of the “right sector,” which supposedly cooked in Crimea series of sabotage and terrorist attacks. Those arrested were taken to Moscow and placed in a detention center “Lefortovo”, informally controlled by the FSB. Afanasiev, who had gone to cooperate with the investigation and discuss Sentsova already sentenced to seven years in a strict regime.

Next were filed two cases against the Crimean Tatar community. The first – “the case on May 3″ – As for meeting the indigenous people of the region of its national leader Mustafa Cemil on the border with mainland Ukraine. His imputed to persons involved in Part 1 or 2 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code (use of hazardous or dangerous respectively violence against a representative of authority). In the case at different times, were arrested five people. Four of them later released on bail. Fifth – Eden Ottomans – almost a month remains in jail.

The second case – “the case on February 26″ – opened on the fact of “mass disorder”, alleged in the Verkhovna Rada of Crimea, where on that day in 2014, meetings were held at the same time of the Crimean Tatars and pro-Russian forces. In the case of arrested deputy chairman of the Mejlis Ahtem Chiygoz and one Eskender Cantemirs. Chiygozu imputed to Part 1 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code (organization of mass disorders), Kantemirova – Part 2 (participation in them).

Finally, in early February in Simferopol was arrested participant of the Kyiv Euromaidan Alexander Kostenko, who was charged wounding an employee of the Crimean “Berkut” in the capital of Ukraine in February 2014. At the same time he imputed to the item “b” of Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code (intentional infliction of bodily harm by hatred or enmity towards any social group), which provides only for up to two years in prison, the arrest in accordance with Article 108 of the Criminal Procedure Code (detention custody) may be applied only in exceptional cases. There are strong suspicions that Russian security forces kidnapped Kostenko from mainland Ukraine and illegally taken to the Crimea.
