MOSCOW, February 23 – RIA Novosti. Moscow clergy, headed by the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill on Monday, the Day of Defender of the Fatherland, will take part in the wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Alexander Garden, told RIA Novosti chairman of the Synodal Department for Cooperation with the armed forces and law enforcement agencies Archpriest Sergei Privalov.
“All the clergy of the city of Moscow will participate in this event. Although this is the first day of Lent, but by order of His Holiness Patriarch of all priests will participate in laying flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, “- said Privalov.
According to him, such a memorable event with the participation of the Orthodox clergy in Russia’s military glory days have become a tradition. Interviewee added that in this, as in other days, “the whole Russian Orthodox Church at the service of prayer raises about Ukraine, about umirenii hearts of people opposing”.
The head of the Synodal Department also cited data according to which at the present time in the Russian army have been serving on an ongoing basis, more than 150 (151) of the representatives of the Orthodox clergy, or about 60% of the authorized strength of military priests. In the near future this number could increase by another 10 people – they are the documents to be signed by the Minister of Defence, Privalov added.
According to the Russian Orthodox Church, now the Defense Ministry in subordinated territories are 266 Orthodox churches and chapels and 37 prayer rooms. Also built new temples army.
