Siluanov: the question of raising the retirement age is economically justified – RIA Novosti

MOSCOW, February 6 – RIA Novosti / Prime. The question of raising the retirement age in Russia is debatable, but it is justified from an economic point of view, told RIA Novosti Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov.

The Ministry of Finance proposes to abolish the payment of basic pension working pensioners and start gradually, half a year, raise the retirement age for men and women, bringing it to 63 years.

“The continuation of pension reform, including raising the retirement age – is debatable. But let’s look at it from an economic point of view,” – says Siluanov.

According to the Minister, earlier, when discussed the revision of the retirement age, the debate was conducted in completely different conditions. “The demographic situation, life expectancy demonstrated in the end much more positive trend. In these circumstances, it turns out that pensioners in the future there will be more, but working and paying taxes – no,” – said Siluanov.

Currently, pension for many – a supplement to earnings: every second continues to work beyond retirement age, while originally intended as a basic pension and disability compensation, rather than as a kind of bonus for age, he said.
