The majority of Russians believe that the bearer of sovereignty in the country is the head of state, not the people, as stated in the Constitution

Held on the eve of Constitution Day in Russia opinion poll shows that Russians consider the source of power in the country itself, and the president.

As found VTsIOM, only 23% of Russian citizens called the bearer of sovereignty and source of power in the country people, as it is written in the Basic Law. More than half of respondents – 55% – believe that it is a function of the head of state.

Among the supporters of the “United Russia” so say 57% of respondents, and among supporters of non-parliamentary parties – 40%.

Every tenth believes that the source of power in the country is the parliament, and 3% are confident that such a god.

Over the past nine years, the number considering that the bearer of sovereignty – a president has not changed, while supporters of the correct version was 4% higher (23% instead of 19% in 2005).

75% of Russians are also aware of what the holiday is celebrated on 12 December. This is already evidenced by data from a survey by the Levada Center.

At the same time 41% of respondents Levada Center never read Russian basic law.

The answers to the question of whether the authorities comply with the country’s constitution, almost equally divided: 39% believe that mostly met, 36% – only in part.

Similarly, the divided opinions of Russians and the question of whether to change the constitution: 27% of respondents believe that the current constitution “fully meets the needs of the country”, while 30% believe that it needs to change.

A few days ago about the possibility of changes Constitution during the meeting with the judges of the Constitutional Court spoke Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to him, the constitution to make any changes dictated by life.

According to Putin, the constitutional process can not be completed for all. However, he cited the example of the situation in 2013, when the Basic Law was amended to merge the Supreme Court and Supreme Arbitration Courts.

At the same time, Putin said that Russia’s constitution is protected from “unreasonable intrusion” caused by “short-term political expediency”.
