Gleb Yakunin graduated from the Moscow Theological Seminary and in 1962 was ordained a priest, but four years later he was forbidden to serve & laquo; until repentance & raquo;.

In the 60-70s Yakunin was an active member of the human rights movement. He published documents showing violations of the rights of believers in the USSR. In 1979, he was arrested and convicted for anti-Soviet propaganda. He sat in the political camp & laquo; Perm-37 & raquo ;, spent several years in exile in Yakutia.

In 1987, he pardoned and restored to the rank of priest. In 1993, again stripped of his rank, and in 1997 the Council of Bishops of the ROC was excommunicated from the Church, but even before he was admitted to the jurisdiction of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Kiev Patriarchate in the priestly dignity, and then moved to the Russian True Orthodox (Catacomb) church. In 2000, based on it were created & laquo; Movement for the revival of Russian Orthodoxy & raquo ;, and then the Apostolic Orthodox Church, which had the rank of archpriest Yakunin.

In 1990, Yakunin was elected deputy of the RSFSR. He was deputy chairman of the Committee of the Supreme Soviet of the Russian Federation on freedom of conscience.

In 1991-1992. participated in the investigation of the causes and circumstances of the Emergency Committee. The Commission published the KGB archives of the alleged co-operation of individual hierarchs of the Moscow Patriarchate with the KGB.
