Panama has suspended the investigation into the offshore scandal – BBC Russian

According to the Prosecutor General of the country, the reason for the suspension of the investigation was a complaint filed in the constitutional court of Panama on the actions of the investigators. According to the Complainant, the participants in the investigation violate the Constitution.

the Prosecutor’s office of Panama did not specify who exactly made the complaint and how, according to the applicant, the actions of the investigation contradict the Panamanian Constitution. The investigation will not be conducted until then, until the complaint did not address the constitutional court.

About the leak of millions of confidential documents of the company Mossack Fonseca became known in April last year. The documents referred to 72 current or former heads of state and senior officials, businessmen and cultural figures.

In particular, it was mentioned by the Prime Minister of Iceland, soon after retired, the relatives of the former Prime Minister of great Britain David Cameron and cellist Sergey Roldugin, who is called a friend of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to the founders of the company, the documents went to press after the firm made a hacker attack. Founder Mossack Fonseca said that the company was not involved in illegal activities and called the publication of the materials a crime.

However, the General Prosecutor’s office of Panama soon declared its readiness to start the investigation of cases of illegal creation of offshore companies referred to in “the Panama document”.
