The head of the White House doubted the advisability of extending the restrictive measures, if they lead to disagreements between Washington and Brussels, reports Reuters.

The view that a consistent tightening of anti-Russian sanctions will lead to a change in Moscow’s policy on the Ukrainian question, American leader called erroneous. He urged not to rely on the fact that “Putin eventually change his mind” if the West continues to expand sanctions measures.

Moscow’s position in the Ukrainian crisis may affect the fact that Europe and the United States will act in concert, believes US president.

Earlier Obama as European leaders, spoke in favor of further tightening of anti-Russian sanctions and threatened Moscow further isolation.

The first package of sanctions the US and the EU’s Russia was introduced this spring year after Moscow recognized the referendum in the Crimea peninsula to withdraw from Ukraine. Since then, the West repeatedly expanded sanctions – after the aggravation of the situation in the east of Ukraine and the collapse of the Boeing 777 passenger airliner at the Donbass militias controlled territory.

Sectoral Western sanctions hit on the whole branches of the Russian economy, and were blacklisted Russian politicians and business leaders. Restrictive measures applied in respect of close to ousted former President Viktor Yanukovych Ukrainian officials and businessmen, as well as the current leaders of the Crimea after referendum to join Russia.

In support of the militias Donbass West accuses Russian authorities. Moscow denies these allegations.
