German Chancellor Angela Merkel at a meeting with members of the Christian Democratic Union said it wants to abolish EU sanctions against Moscow as soon as possible, but does not see grounds for this. The agency told Reuters the party members.

According to them, Merkel said that “today is better than tomorrow” to the lifting of sanctions against Russia. At the same time, she noted that this decision should be “based on facts” compliance with the Minsk agreements. In the meantime, she said, in the east of Ukraine, these agreements are not executed.

Earlier, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev in an interview with Time magazine, said that the Russian authorities will not ask for the lifting of sanctions. Speaking about Russia’s position on the issue of lifting sanctions, he made reference to one of the episodes of the novel “The Master and Margarita” by Mikhail Bulgakov.
