MOSCOW, Feb. 4 – RIA Novosti The annual report of the Secretary-General. NATO Jens Stoltenberg argues that Russia’s military doctrine over the past three years has increased significantly, and some even worked out nuclear strikes.
According to Stoltenberg, in 2013 the Russian armed forces conducted 18 large-scale exercises, several were involved in more than 100 thousand soldiers. “The exercise included a simulation of nuclear attacks on member countries and NATO partners, in particular the exercise in March 2013 for an attack on Sweden. Also train covert movement of large clusters of technology and personnel as a demonstration of threats Russia’s neighbors” – it was stated in the report.
These actions “are unpredictable and destabilizing factor” in the NATO security system, said Stoltenberg. In response, “the alliance began to show a strong commitment to enhancing military transparency”.
It was reported earlier that NATO is discussing increased military presence on the eastern borders of the alliance, but excludes accommodation of hundreds of thousands of ready-to-combat troops on the borders.
Moscow considers the capacity of NATO military capabilities and its approach to the borders of Russia as a threat to national security.
